The best way to keep plastic straws out of landfills is not to use them — whether you’re at home or in a restaurant. If you’d like to use a straw, there are other nonplastic alternatives. I've used paper and metal straws in addition to plastic and glass. Paper straws go soggy. Metal can leave a metallic taste in your mouth which some people dislike. My glass straws are hypoallergenic, taste free and are eviromentally friendly. They are made of borosilicate class. The same thing as Pyrex dishes. They are dishwasher safe, heat and cold resistant and if cared for the same way as any other glass drinkware, very durable.
