The tradition of the Christmas Pickle ornament is typically believed to be a German tradition, although it actually originated in the U.S.A. While no one is certain of the exact origin, there are several legends exist, one even dating back to the Civil War. Regardless of its humble beginning, a pickle is an unusual item to be associated with Christmas. Everyone who sees the Christmas Pickle seems to have a personal and story associated with it, and it is usually accompanied with a yearly family tradition. A decoration in the shape of a pickle is hidden on the Christmas tree late on Christmas Eve or on Christmas morning, with the finder receiving either a reward of either opening the first gift on Christmas morning, an extra surprise from Santa Claus, or good fortune for the next year.
This is my version of the Christmas Pickle. A hollow ornament in a beautiful shade of green glass with a clear glass loop and gold ribbon for hanging. Each one is similar, yet slightly different. The Pickles measures approximately 3 1/2" to 4" long including the clear loop by roughly 1" in diameter. Includes a copy of the Christmas Pickle poem.
You will receive one similar to the one pictured. I make and sell so many ornaments each year it is impossible to photograph each one.
